Wednesday May 10, 2006
The Boeing Company has announced a donation of $15 million to the National Air and Space Museum offering continued support of the museum's education and preservation efforts. This is the single largest corporate gift ever presented to the Smithsonian Institution. The gift will help fund museum programming, the care of artifacts and remaining construction at the museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Va. The museum's collection includes 43 Boeing-built or related aircraft that played prominent roles in the history of 20th-century aeronautics. In recognition of the donation, the central structure at the Udvar-Hazy Center will be named the Boeing Aviation Hangar.
