The National Garden, a three-acre garden located on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol opens to the public on October 1, 2006. The new National Garden will include a First Ladies' water garden, an extensive rose garden, a butterfly garden, and a display of a variety of regional trees, shrubs and perennials. This $10 million project was financed by private funds and provides an outdoor annex and learning laboratory to the U.S. Botanic Garden.
