View a Replica Liberty Bell at Mount Vernon

Friday June 27, 2008
Through July 6, 2008, Mount Vernon Estate will display a replica Liberty Bell, ringing it every hour. The 3,200 pound bell was cast in the same London foundry and has the same tone (E Flat) as the original bell. The yoke of the Bell incorporates wood from the last of the 13 original Liberty Trees. The original Liberty Bell rang on the day Washington died and on Washington's Birthday over the years until it was cracked.

If you haven't visited Mount Vernon in the last few years, the addition of the Orientation Center, Museum and Education Center makes George Washington's former home a wonderful destination offering a full day of fun. Located in Mount Vernon, Virginia along the shores of the Potomac River, it is the most scenic tourist attraction in the Washington, DC area. Visit the mansion, the outbuildings, the gardens and the new museum and learn about the life of America's first president and his family.
