Opening of Georgetown Waterfront Park
Monday October 6, 2008
Wow, what a difference! For many years, the shoreline of the Potomac River near Georgetown was an eyesore with a view of a huge parking lot and lots of concrete. World-renowned landscape architects Wallace Roberts & Todd, commissioned by the National Park Service, have transformed the waterfront creating a new multi-use urban park, Georgetown Waterfront Park. The first of two construction phases is complete. When finished, Georgetown Waterfront Park will become the largest national park created in the Nation’s Capital in 30 years since Constitution Gardens was completed on the National Mall in 1976.
