Portrait of Barack Obama Acquired by the National Portrait Gallery

Wednesday January 7, 2009
The portrait that came to symbolize the historic campaign of President-elect Barack Obama will make its permanent home at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC. The piece, created by Los Angeles artist Shepard Fairey, came to the museum through the generosity of art collectors Heather and Tony Podesta, in honor of Tony Podesta's mother, the late Mary K. Podesta. Fairey's large-scale, mixed-media stenciled collage will be on view at the Portrait Gallery by Inauguration Day. It will be installed on the first floor of the museum in the exhibition titled "New Arrivals."

On the even of Bush’s 2004 inauguration the AP criticized the cost and yet Obama who will be spending three times what it cost Bush is not receiving any criticism especially in light of the current economic problem. The media is definitely in the tank for Obama, afterall they did get him elected.

KathrynK - when history is being made, we are usually unaware of it. Bush was not the popular choice - EVER. Finally, the popular choice is going in. He is the first breath of fresh air most of us have had in eight years. So we are going to breathe. Your guy, Mr. Bush, had his time and did nothing good with it. We are done with the C students.

Either come out with us and breathe deep, or sit down, stay quiet and out of his way.
