Outdoor Recreation in Rock Creek Park

Monday August 10, 2009
Rock Creek Park is a beautiful urban park in Washington, DC that is an oasis for a variety of animal and plants, including coyotes, raccoons, owls, deer and many species of trees. Recreation facilities include hiking, bicycling and equestrian trails, picnic and playground facilities, a golf course, a tennis stadium, a nature center and planetarium and an outdoor concert venue. The park follows the Rock Creek across the DC-Maryland border and connects with Rock Creek Stream Valley Park and Rock Creek Regional Park in Montgomery County. For more information, see A Visitors Guide to Rock Creek Park.

The opportunities for hikers are many – I don’t necessarily speak from experience but Rock Creek Park must be one of the best urban hiking parks in the country. Here’s one of my favorite routes: Rock Creek Park Western Ridge Trail loop.
