Constitution Day 2010 in Washington DC

Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787. Here are some special events in the nation's capital.

  • National Archives - Friday, September 17, 2010, 1 -2 p.m. Happy Birthday, U.S. Constitution! The first 223 guests will receive a piece of birthday cake and meet First Lady Dolley Madison as she describes White House entertainment in the early 19th century. At 2:30 p.m. see the film "Dolley Madison" - Tony Award-winning actress Eve Best is Dolley Madison in the docudrama from PBS American Experience series. (2010; 60 minutes.)

  • White House Visitor Center - September 18, 2010, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. 1450 Pennsylvania Ave., NW Washington, DC. President's Park will present a special program, "We the People" celebrating the 222nd anniversary of the signing of the Constitution. Visitors will have the opportunity to travel back in time to 1787 and add their names alongside the signatures of Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, and James Madison. The event includes games, crafts, and historical activities for the whole family.
