National Park Week, April 21-29, 2012, is an annual week for celebration and recognition of our National Parks. First proclaimed in 1991 by President George H.W. Bush to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the National Park Service, this week is a time to renew our passion and commitment to the resources we protect. National Parks provide recreational experiences, opportunities to learn and grow, and places of quiet refuge. About 200 parks will also commemorate Junior Ranger Day with fun-filled activities and special events. Almost every National Park has a Junior Ranger program -- a program to connect children and families with the natural and cultural history found in National Parks. Junior Rangers demonstrate that they have what it takes to preserve and understand the importance of our national treasures. Take some time this week to visit one of Washington, DC's national parks.
