During the past 12 months, millions of people from across the world have visited the Washington, DC Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial and been inspired by Dr. King's message. The first anniversary of the Memorial will be celebrated on August 28, 2012 at 7 p.m. with a public celebration of Dr. King's life including a brief program followed by an outdoor film screening of The Long Walk Home. The movie is about two women in Montgomery, Alabama, who decide to stand up for democracy and justice in response to the famous 1955 bus boycott lead by Dr. King. Bring a blanket and/or a lawn chair to commemorate the Memorial's first "birthday."
