Just in time for the holidays, on November 26, 2012, a university town will be created from gingerbread, licorice whips, gumdrops and icing in the 7th annual Gingertown, a celebration of the creativity, generosity, and civic spirit of the Washington-area design, building, and real estate community. Each year, David M. Schwarz Architects creates a unique master plan for this holiday themed, magical town. This year's Gingertown, designed to a university theme, will feature buildings such as the I.M. Pez Library, the Cadbury Egghead Library, The Peppermint Patty Performing Arts Center and the Swedish Fish Boat House. Architects, engineers, building contractors and others will erect the "town" in four hours at 1133 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington DC. It will be on view until November 30th, after which it will be disassembled and individual buildings, along with cash contributions, will then be donated to area charities. The hand-crafted structures will be donated to St. Elizabeth's Hospital, So Others Might Eat (SOME), Wendt Center for Loss and Healing, Martha's Table, Children's National Medical Center, the Washington Home and Community Hospices, and Deanwood Rehabilitation and Health Center.
