By October 2, 2013

Follow me on:

The government has shut down for the first time in 17 years! The shutdown is over the controversy over the Affordable Care Act which will take affect today anyway with new Healthcare Insurance Exchanges opening to provide healthcare to millions of Americans. The shutdown will cause government employees to be furloughed and many public institutions to be closed. The Smithsonian museums including the National Zoo and National Parks will be closed. Especially notable in the Washington DC area, the National Park Service will not be operating tours and talks at the monuments and memorials.

What's Open? Here is a list of attractions in the Washington DC area that are open and you can visit while the government is shut down.
