C & O Canal Map

This map shows the full length of the C & O Canal which extends 184.5 miles from Georgetown in Washington, DC to Cumberland, MD. The Towpath along the canal is a popular place for bicycling and jogging. There are six visitors centers along the way, marked by the green and black hiker icons on the map, and many interesting points of interest. Map User Tips
The green line shows the sourthern half of the canal towpath; the blue line shows the northern half; and the red line shows the Big Slackwater detour that connects the southern and northen routes via paved roads. Click on the map icons to get more information or specific directions from your location. Zoom in or out to see more detail using the vertical slider bar on the left hand side of the map. To recenter the map click and drag the map background. You can toggle current traffic conditions on and off by clicking on the Traffic button. You can change the type of map displayed by clicking on the Map button and selecting the desired option(s). To see Street View images, click and drag the orange man icon (located in the upper left hand corner of the map) to the desired location and release.
