The Maryland Intercounty Connector (ICC) is a multi-year project and is divided into five sections, or Contracts, as planned by the Maryland Department of Transportation. Each Contract is described briefly below. For more information on the ICC, see ICC - The Intercounty Connector. Contract A, shown on the map in GREEN, the westernmost portion of the ICC in Montgomery County will be the first section built. It will extend from I-370 to just east of MD 97 (Georgia Avenue). Three interchanges will serve this stretch of road -- at I-370/MD 355 (Frederick Avenue), I-370 /Shady Grove Road and the access road to the Shady Grove Metro Station, and I-370/MD 97 (Georgia Avenue). Contract B, shown on the map in MAGENTA, extends from east of MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) to west of US 29 (Columbia Pike). Contract B of the ICC will be constructed third, following Contracts A and C. Approximately 7 miles of six-lane highway will be built in this section with interchanges at MD 182 (Layhill Road) and MD 650 (New Hampshire Avenue). Contract C, shown on the map in ORANGE, extends 3.7 miles from just west of US 29 (Columbia Pike) to just east of I-95. Interchanges will be built at US 29, Briggs Chaney Road and I-95. It is the second contract of the ICC that will start, following Contract A. Contract D, shown on the map in BLUE, will build 3.0 miles of collector-distributor lanes that straddle I-95 from north of the ICC to Brooklyn Bridge, in Prince George's County. In addition, Contract D will resurface 4.9 miles of I-95 and will follow Contracts A, C, and B. Contract E, shown on the map in RED, will follow Contracts A, C and B. The easternmost section of the ICC, stretching from just east of I-95 to US 1, will transition the ICC from a six-lane highway to a four-lane boulevard ending at Virginia Manor Road and US 1.
