Strathmore Backyard Theater for Children

Strathmore’s Backyard Theater provides innovative performances for children every Thursday morning in July at 9:30 & 11:30 a.m. The Music Center at Strathmore, a 1,976-seat concert hall and education complex is located at 10701 Rockville Pike (Route 355), in North Bethesda, MD, immediately adjacent to the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Station.

Tickets are $6 for adults & children, ages 3 & up. To purchase tickets, call (301) 581-5100 or visit www.strathmore.org

Parking

Strathmore’s Backyard Theater parking is available in the Mansion at Strathmore parking lot on a space available basis. The entrance is located at 10701 Rockville Pike. Additional parking is located in the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Station and along Tuckerman Lane. A SmarTrip card is required to exit the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro garage. Cards can be purchased within the Metro station.

Thursday, July 2, 2009
BASH THE TRASH. The show entertains and educates audience members with their trademark mix of science, environment, music and humor. The group will feature three performers playing instruments made of recycled materials.

LESOLE’S DANCE PROJECT. Founded by South African dancer and teacher Lesole Maine, this dance and drum ensemble performs an Afro-Fusion repertoire including gumboots, Indlamu and Panstula.

RED GRAMMER. The nationally acclaimed children’s singer-songwriter, gives a solo performance bringing his message of character building and oneness to children young and old.

CHARLOTTE BLAKE ALSTON. Alston gives a solo presentation of story and song in the Griot tradition, performing on traditional instruments including the djembe, berimbau and mbira.

Thursday, July 30, 2009
KIM AND REGGIE HARRIS. Music and the Underground Railroad, a program of songs, stories and audience participation. This vocal duo also uses guitar and percussion in their performances.
