With 70 performances from late June through early August, Wolf Trap’s Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods presents family-friendly shows at 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays. Amidst 117 rolling wooded acres and nestled in a shady grove, the stage at Wolf Trap National Park is set for lively adventures in music, dance, storytelling, puppetry, and theater. Most performances are recommended for children between Kindergarten and 6th grade.

Tickets

Tickets are just $8 for one show or $10 for both shows on the same day. Tickets are available online. Advanced purchase is recommended as performances do sell out. If available, tickets may be purchased the day of the performance at the footbridge with exact change, check, or credit card.

2009 Performance Schedule

June 23 – 27, 2009
10:00 a.m. – Dinorock – Dinosaur Desperados. Adventures from the Mesozoic era with playful puppets and live music

11:15 a.m. – Baba Jamal Koram – Under the Griot’s Tree. Interactive storytelling of African culture using music, humor, and history

June 30 – July 3, 2009 (no performance on July 4)
10:00 a.m – Furia Flamenca – A Magical Trip Around Spain. Flamenco dancing accompanied by a live guitarist and hand-held percussion instruments

11:15 a.m. – Antonio Rocha – Tales from the Amazon and Beyond. Rocha combines sound effects and storytelling to emulate rainforest animals

July 7 – 11, 2009
10:00 a.m – Hui Hula O Na Mele Aloha – Dances of Aloha. A showcase of traditional and modern Hawaiian hula dancing

11:15 a.m. – Steve Roslonek – SteveSongs. Silly songs and humor from Mr. Steve, a Parent’s Choice Gold Award winner

July 14 – 18, 2009
10:00 a.m. – Happenstance Theater – Plunkett and Tremolo. Hilariously fun wordless storytelling with Mark Jaster and Sabrina Mandell

11:15 a.m. – Billy B – The Singing Tree. An exploration of the life cycle of the tree through folk-rock music

July 21 – 25, 2009
10:00 a.m. – Hobey Ford’s Golden Rod Puppets – Animalia. An examination of the magical animal kingdom using “Foamie” animal puppets

11:15 a.m. – Cathy & Marcy’s Song Shop – Beat Box & Banjos with Special Guest Christylez Bacon. Grammy Award-winning duo and DC hip hop artist fuse different music styles

July 28 – August 1, 2009
10:00 a.m. - Maryland Youth Ballet – Caroline Goes to the Rodeo. A new production presenting Caroline’s unexpected performance at the rodeo

11:15 a.m. – TBA

August 4 – 8, 2009
10:00 a.m. – Rocknoceros – Painting the Town Pink! Fun-loving DC-area rock band performs original children’s songs

11:15 a.m. – Bob Brown Puppets – Clowning Around. Local favorite, Bob Brown’s clever clowns perform daring stunts

Wolf Trap National Park is located at 1624 Trap Road, Vienna, Virginia about 20 minutes from Washington, DC, just off the Dulles Toll Road.
