What better way to end a full day of holiday shopping than to enjoy the sights and sounds of Union Station's well-decked halls? Washington's train station and upscale shopping mall features entertainment throughout the season to appeal to all ages.
2013 Update: Due to damage to the building from the August 2011 earthquake, Union Station is currently under construction and seasonal decorations are limited. The Norwegian Christmas tree will be erected outside the station this year, so the lighting ceremony will be held outside the West Hall, on the porch facing 1st Street by the west exit of the Union Station Metro station. The Christmas tree lighting ceremony is open to the public and will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 6 p.m. The Children's Chorus of Washington will be singing Christmas carols and the Embassy of Norway will serve refreshments during the ceremony. This year, the tree is specially decorated to mark the 150th anniversary of famous Norwegain artist Edward Munch.
