The Holiday season is a great time to take the whole family to a live concert. Here is the schedule of performances in Maryland.

  • A Skaggs Family Christmas - December 1, 2011, 8 p.m. Fourteen-time Grammy winner Ricky Skaggs makes this holiday season a family affair, marshalling the members of his own gifted family as well as his in-laws, the bluegrass masters the White Family. Staple carols of the holiday season such as “Little Drummer Boy,” “What Child is This?,” “The Christmas Guest” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” will be imbued with the mountain sound of bluegrass.

  • 5 Browns Holiday Concert - December 2, 2011, 8 p.m. Seasonal music from Tchaikovsky, Liszt and Mozart to Richard Rodgers and Peanuts composer Vince Guaraldi.

  • Dave Koz and Friends Christmas Tour 2011 - December 5, 2011, 8 p.m. Smooth Jazz master Dave Koz and his cadre of talented friends, Rich Braun, Jonathan Butler and Candy Dulfer, spread their own blend of Smooth Christmas cheer with songs from Koz’s classic holiday albums December Makes Me Feel This Way, A Smooth Jazz Christmas by Dave Koz & Friends and Memories of a Winter’s Night.

  • Jim Brickman - A Christmas Celebration - December 7, 2011, 8 p.m. Holiday favorites that have drawn revelers around the piano for decades will be inflected with solo pianist Jim Brickman’s signature “rhapsodic melodies coupled with considerable stage charm” (Boston Herald). He will be joined by special musical guests singers Anne Cochran and Benjamin Utecht, and electric violinist Tracy Silverman.

  • Lena Seikaly - Holiday Jazz Standards - December 16, 2011, 11 a.m. Songs of the holidays will be delivered with style by “buzzed-about vocalist Lena Seikaly, whose lush mezzo-soprano and clever phrasing have made her one of the local jazz scene’s most promising performers” (The Washington Post).

  • Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra - December 18, 2011, 5:30 & 7:30 p.m. The Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra celebrates the holiday season with new arrangements and selections from the Stan Kenton and Claude Thornhill songbooks and features the entire “Nutcracker Suite” adaptation by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn.
NIH Community Orchestra and Chorus
December 3, 2011, 2 p.m. Old and New Worlds Holiday Concert presented in association with the East Avenue Ensemble of Chevy Chase. Georgetown Preparatory School, Haas Hall, Figge Theater, 10900 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda, MD. Choral and Orchestral concert featuring Respighi’s Laud to the Nativity, Shaw’s Many Moods of Christmas, and Dvorak’s New World Symphony. Free will donations.

Charles Carroll House Candlelight Chamber Music
December 3, 2011, 5 p.m. 107 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, Maryland. Celebrate the holidays with a Candlelight Concert of festive 18th-19th C. European chamber music and seasonal favorites presented by the Annapolis Chamber Players. Hosted by the Charles Carroll House of Annapolis, patrons will experience chamber music in the intimate setting for which it was intended. Limited seating at $ 30/person.

The Georgetown Chorale
December 11, 2011, 3:00 p.m. “The Promise of Light". Christ Lutheran Church, 8011 Old Georgetown Rd., Bethesda, Maryland Included in the concert will be Cantata No. 140, Wachet Auf by J.S.
