Point Lookout State Park is a peninsula formed by the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River that offers recreational opportunities including swimming, fishing, boating and camping. The park's history dates back to the Civil War where the site was the location of a prison camp which imprisoned as many as 52,264 Confederate soldiers. With is location in Southern Maryland, Point Lookout is an easy place to take a day trip from the Washington DC area.
