DC Shorts Film Festival 2009 – Washington, DC

By Rachel Cooper, About.com

The DC Shorts Film Festival is the Washington, DC area’s only film festival dedicated to showcasing and discussing short films from around the world. DC Shorts Film Festival will invite people to vote for their favorite films using a special phone-based ballot system. Each film will have a 4-digit code and after the films have ended, a phone number will appear on the screen - audience members will call in and punch the code of their favorite film.

Each show lasts approximately two hours and includes a variety of films all lasting from one minute to 23 minutes and includes a variety of genres: dramas, comedies, animation, documentaries, and creative experimental films. There is also a screenplay competition presented at a table reading with professional actors. During the week, 102 films will be screened and six screenplays will be performed.

This year there will be two special music contests. The first will allow visitors to the DCShorts Web site to vote for their favorite original song from this year's films. And, the second competition allows visitors to vote for their favorite local band to play at the opening night party.
