Washington Capitals – DC’s NHL Hockey Team

The Washington Capitals are a professional ice hockey team and members of the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team is owned and operated by the Monumental Sports & Entertainment and plays its home games at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC. The Washington Capitals have made 21 playoff appearances, two conference final appearances (1990, 1998) and one Stanley Cup final appearance (1998). The franchise has won six division titles, and in 2009-10 won a franchise-record 54 games on its way to the Presidents’ Trophy. The regular NHL season runs from January through April. Kettler Capitals Iceplex

In 2006, the Washington Capitals opened the Kettler Capitals Iceplex, a community ice rink at Ballston Common Mall at 627 N. Glebe Road in Arlington, VA. The Iceplex serves as the Capitals’ training facility and home to the team’s administrative offices. The complex includes two NHL-size ice rinks with seating for approximately 1,200, a pro shop, media facilities, special event space. The state-of-the-art training center for the Capitals includes a fitness center, athletic-training and medical facilities, locker-room and lounge areas, a theater-style classroom and a high-tech video room.
