Celebrate the Holidays in Historic Leesburg

The town of Leesburg, Virginia celebrates the holiday season with a variety of special events, including a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, a holiday craft show, and a holiday parade, festival and concert. Leesburg is also a great place to enjoy shopping, dining, and seasonal cheer. Here’s the schedule of upcoming events:

Christmas Tree Lighting - December 4, 2009, 6 p.m. Town Green, 25 W Market St, Leesburg, Virginia. The Leesburg community kicks off the holiday season with the town Christmas tree lighting, featuring performances from local elementary schools, high schools, words from the mayor, council and guest speaker. Join in a holiday sing-a-long and stay in town for the evening for Leesburg’s First Friday event - local businesses and merchants will be open late to host some holiday cheer.

Holiday Fine Arts and Craft Show – December 5-6, 2009. Ida Lee Park Recreation Center, 60 Ida Lee Dr. NW, Leesburg, Virginia. The show features over 90 local and regional artisans selling hand made items from candles, stained glass, carved wood, jewelry, leather products, table linens, and much more. Hours are Saturday 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Leesburg Holiday Parade and Festival - December 12, 2009, 10 a.m. Catch your Christmas spirit and bring the whole family to see Santa and his friends parade down King Street, through the heart of historic Leesburg. Following the parade, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. historic downtown Leesburg will be transformed into a holiday wonderland with nostalgic carriage rides through the historic district, carnival rides and games, live entertainment and free rides on the The North Pole train. While shopping downtown Leesburg, be sure to catch the ice carving demonstration and grab a photo with Santa, Frosty, and Rudolph!

The Jingle Jam Holiday Concert – December 12, 2009, 2:30 and 8 p.m. Leesburg’s holiday rock and roll concert. Hosted at the Tally Ho theatre, this concert will feature many local and regional artists playing traditional holiday tunes- with a little edge. Tickets will be on sale at Ida Lee Recreation Center. Seating is very limited.

Also, visit Oatlands Historic House and Gardens. Throughout the holiday season, the 360-acre estate will come alive with historic and handcrafted decorations. Explore the estate and enjoy live music, unique shopping and afternoon tea.
