What’s better than corned beef and cabbage and green beer on St. Patrick’s Day? The Irish restaurants and pubs in the Washington, DC area will be hopping with Irish cheer on March 17th. You don’t have to be Irish to enjoy the festivities and you will find that a variety of Washington, DC area restaurants get into the spirit by celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with food and drink specials. Here is a schedule of some notable dining and pub crawling events:

Leprechaun Lap On Saturday, March 8, 2008 from 1 – 9 p.m., an annual St. Patrick's Day bar crawl begins at Mackey's Public House at 1823 L St. NW, Washington, DC. The Leprechaun Lap includes food and drink specials at Rumors, Sign of the Whale, the Front Page, McFadden's, Porter's, the Bottom Line, Recessions and the Madhatter. Registration is between 1 and 6 p.m. at Mackey’s. The cost is $10 with two cans of food to donate to a local charity, $13 without.

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, Irish born Chef Cathal Armstrong will create a seven-course prix fixe menu on March 17th. Enjoy Irish Black pudding with Foie Gras and a sampling of Potatoes with Caviar and Truffles. The cost is $115 per person.

Dupont Grille will be serving traditional corned beef and cabbage for $13.95 along with homemade Irish stew priced at $13.95 as specials on St. Patrick's Day.

1789 Restaurant 226 36th Street, NW, Washington, DC

Celebrate with a three-course St. Patrick's Day menu on including dishes inspired by great Irish heritage. Dishes to be presented include Dublin Bay prawns and artichoke stew with Irish soda bread; braised beef brisket with foie gras, stuffed cabbage and potato buxty. The dinner will finish with a raisin bread pudding served with Irish cream. A complete a la carte menu will also be available for the evening.
