In 2008, Maryland voters authorized the allowance of casinos and slot machine gambling at five designated locations across the state. Maryland officials estimated that slots would generate $700 million in revenue and 48 percent of the funds would go directly towards education. Four casinos have been built as of May 2013. A two-story casino will be built near the Camden Yards stadium in downtown Baltimore. A sixth location in Prince George’s County was approved by voters in the 2012 General Election.
