Nationals Park, the new baseball stadium for the Washington Nationals, opened for the spring season of 2008. The 41,000-seat state-of-the-art ballpark is located in the South Capitol Street corridor of Washington, DC near the Navy Yard and the Anacostia River. When baseball returned to Washington, DC in 2005 after a 34 year hiatus, the nation's capital made a promise to Major League Baseball to build a new stadium in a desirable location downtown. The construction of Nationals Park is just the beginning of the revitalization of this part of the city. New housing, retail stores, restaurants, parking garages and office space will be built in the neighborhood over the next several years.
