In October 2006, the National Zoo opened its Asia Trail, a series of exhibits that were part of a $53 million improvement project. The trail is home to numerous Asian animals, with habitats that let you get very close to the animals on display and interactive technology that teaches you throughout the trail.

Here is a view of Tai Shan, the Giant Panda Cub, in his improved habitat along the Asia Trail.
