Guide Review - 1789 Restaurant Review - Washington, DC

Georgetown’s premiere restaurant is situated in a renovated Federal period house in residential Georgetown. Its six dining rooms are beautifully decorated with American antiques, period equestrian, historical prints and Limoges china, providing an elegant setting. The menu at 1789 highlights the flavors of the region’s best ingredients and changes with the seasons. For a starter, I loved the Maine Lobster Salad celery root, green apple, hearts of celery, Maviz raisins and cider vinaigrette. It was a tasty and interesting combination. As the main course, I enjoyed the Arctic Char (a fish - somewhat like salmon) french green lentils, roasted cipollini onions, baby carrots and beurre rouge. Among the more popular dishes are the Rack of Lamb roasted Yukon gold potatoes, rapini, roasted garlic purée and lamb jus and the EcoFriendly Farms Pork Chop roasted chanterelle mushrooms, brussel sprouts, braised pork belly and cider jus. For dessert the Sticky Pumpkin Pudding was a winner.

1789 is an institution in Washington, DC. It is a good place to take out-of-town guests or business associates.
