Guide Review - BRABO by Robert Wiedmaier Restaurant Review - Alexandria, Virginia

Signature dishes at BRABO include Roasted Chicken in a Tarragon Jus, a 24-hour Veal Shank, Filet with Stilton Cheese and Grilled Lamb Tenderloins with a White Bean Puree. Highly recommended starters include Wild Mushroom and Foie Gras Ravioli the Pan Seared Scallops. We especially enjoyed the Braised Pork Shank prepared with Baby Bok Choy, Sweet Potatoes, and Chili Sauce. The meat was very tender and wonderfully seasoned. We were feeling adventurous and ordered an unusual dish - Crispy Skate Wing, which is a fish like a stingray. It had a texture and taste unlike any fish I'd ever eaten. The fish was mild with a flaky texture, lightly breaded and pan fried. However, I would not recommend it, except for the adventurous epicurean. For dessert, we enjoyed the Triple Chocolate Mousse Terrine, which was light and a perfect end to a fine meal.

The 105-seat restaurant provides an elegant dining atmosphere, while the BRABO Tasting Room located next door is a casual gathering place with 45 seats that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also on site is The Butcher’s Block, a gourmet European style market selling wine, Belgium beer, cheese, olives, charcuterie, bread and pates. Robert Wiedmaier also owns Marcel's and Brasserie Beck in Washington, DC.
