Guide Review - CommonWealth Pub - Restaurant Review - Washington, DC
The menu at CommonWealth features a variety of traditional British starters and main dishes such as fish and chips, bangers and mash, and a selection of pots and pies. Some unfamiliar items such as Scotch eggs, roasted bone marrow with parsley shallot salad, deviled sweetbreads and house-made Wiltshire-style pork belly. The menu requires some interpretation, but the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. We especially enjoyed the London Broil w/Worcestershire & Maldon Smoked Salt and the Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert.
Every Sunday CommonWealth honors the British tradition of the “Sunday Roast” (the British version of Sunday afternoon supper) featuring a selection of roasted meat served family-style and paired with seasonal sides made from local ingredients. CommonWealth also imports British condiments including teas, oat cakes, beer, and cheese.
The decor is very casual with a dark wood paneling, concrete block walls, stained concrete floors and leather seating to create a traditional pub atmosphere. A glass enclosed private dining room is located in the center of the restaurant. The bar area seats 40 and the outdoor patio seats 35.
