Guide Review - Old Hickory Steakhouse Restaurant Review - Gaylord National Resort

The ambiance at Old Hickory Steakhouse makes this restaurant special. The setting includes beautiful hardwood floors, contemporary lighting, classic furnishings, an intimate lounge, a wine-cellar room and a cheese cave. The prime seating (in the room farthest from the entrance) overlooks the Potomac River with spectacular views from large picture windows.

The specialty here is steak with a menu ranging from an 8 oz. Beef Tenderloin to a 24 oz. Porterhouse. Other dishes include salmon, scallops and chicken. Side dishes are served to share including items such as Creamed Spinach, Roasted Asparagus Truffle Fries, and Truffle Mac & Cheese. My steak was perfectly cooked and I especially enjoyed the Truffle Mac & Cheese. The restaurant's unique feature is the Maitre d'Fromage, who makes a tableside presentation of cheeses from around the world that have been stored and aged in their glass-enclosed cheese cave. Guests can create their own cheese course at the beginning or the end of the meal. We enjoyed a nice variety of cheeses and topped the meal off with a satisfying glass of port.

Old Hickory Steakhouse has 5 separate rooms accommodating a total of 220 people. The rooms offer an intimate setting and the availability to close off space for a private party.

Two words Braised Beef, Member chelleyhoward

My husband and I went to this restaurant when it first opened in the Gaylord Hotel at the National Harbor. Upon entering there was a cozy sitting/waiting area near a fireplace. We did not have to wait but I don't think I would have cared since the waiting area looked so inviting. I ordered the braised beef and my husband ordered lamb. I have never tasted meat so perfectly seasoned and tender it was so delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection.Yes we paid well for our dinner but the atmosphere, a musician walking around playing the violin that night and the beautiful glow of the fireplace made this a beautiful evening. Dress nice, dinner jackets were required the night we went not sure if that's always or just certain evenings. I did not expect to find such elegance in a place called Old Hickory. A perfect spot for valentines day.
