Guide Review - Potenza Restaurant Review - Washington, DC

Potenza serves a wide range of Italian fare using fresh, seasonal ingredients from local farms and artisans. The menu features elegant Italian cheeses, freshly baked breads, pizzas and homemade pastas. The pizza is light and flavorful and the sauces are just right. Signature dishes include Tuscan bean soup with proscuitto, tomato oil and purple basil; a spicy duck sausage pizza with candied fennel, and entrees such as a rotisserie of guinea hen with apples, chestnuts, figs and Ciabatta croutons or whole roasted Bronzino with truffled cavatelli and seared cauliflower florets. I especially enjoyed the Milanese style pork (Cotoletta di Maiale alla Milanese).

The contemporary design of the 10,000-square-foot restaurant includes an open linear kitchen layout with food stations consisting of a bakery with separate entrance, salami counter, raw bar, 6,000-pound pizza oven. The restaurant seats 175 in the dining room with 40 seats at the bar. A charming outdoor patio with views of the Treasury Building and the Washington Monument is also available during the spring and summer months (weather permitting), and can accommodate 60 guests.
