The National Marathon in Washington, DC was renamed the SunTrust Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon & CareFirst Rock ‘n’ Roll USA for 2012. The 26.2 mile race begins at RFK Stadium and provides runners and spectators with views of more than monuments and the National Mall. It highlights the best of Washington, DC’s neighborhoods, featuring six of the city’s eight wards, including portions run through the heart of Adams Morgan, dynamic Kalorama, and beautiful Poplar Point.
The Washington DC event is the 26th tour stop in the international series of entertainment themed marathons and half-marathons. The series, which started in San Diego in 1998, has become a fundraising powerhouse for charity endurance-training programs, such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, American Cancer Society® and Susan G. Komen for the Cure® who have raised in excess of $266 million through the series since 1998.

TransportationMany roads around Washington, DC will be closed during the Marathon. It is suggested that runners and spectators use Metro. The Metro will open an hour earlier than usual, at 6 a.m. to accommodate participants.
