National Marathon 2013 in Washington, DC

The National Marathon in Washington, DC was renamed the SunTrust Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon & CareFirst Rock ‘n’ Roll USA for 2012. The 26.2 mile race begins at RFK Stadium and provides runners and spectators with views of more than monuments and the National Mall. It highlights the best of Washington, DC’s neighborhoods, featuring six of the city’s eight wards, including portions run through the heart of Adams Morgan, dynamic Kalorama, and beautiful Poplar Point.

The Washington DC event is the 26th tour stop in the international series of entertainment themed marathons and half-marathons. The series, which started in San Diego in 1998, has become a fundraising powerhouse for charity endurance-training programs, such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, American Cancer Society® and Susan G. Komen for the Cure® who have raised in excess of $266 million through the series since 1998.

Thursday, 12-7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

Health & Fitness Expo, DC Armory, 2001 East Capitol Street, SE, Washington, DC. The free event features more than 50 exhibitors displaying the latest running shoes and apparel, nutritional information and fitness trends.

Saturday

8 a.m. National Marathon, Rain or Shine. C Street at 19th Street, Washington, DC.

Finish Line & Finish Line Festival - E. Capitol Street at Armory Mall, Washington DC.

Transportation

Many roads around Washington, DC will be closed during the Marathon. It is suggested that runners and spectators use Metro. The Metro will open an hour earlier than usual, at 6 a.m. to accommodate participants.
