Guide Review - Hanks Oyster Bar - Washington, DC Restaurant Review

Hanks Oyster Bar offers fresh seafood in a casual non-pretentious atmosphere. The menu features New England beach-style seafood dishes such as lobster rolls, clam chowder, steamed mussels, fish and chips, and griddled crab cakes. The specialty is of course oysters, with a selection of several varieties served raw on the half-shell, fried oysters and an Oyster Po’ Boy. The raw bar also serves clams and ceviche. Seasonal choices include shad roe, soft shell crabs, lightly fried popcorn shrimp and calamari. Side dishes are fairly typical items such as Mac and Cheese, Cole Slaw, Old Bay French Fries and Buttermilk Onion Rings. Hank’s wine list includes a nice variety and the beer list focuses on microbrews and seasonal beer.

Hanks Oyster Bar serves brunch on Saturday and Sunday featuring a selection of seasonal New England favorites including crabcake eggs benedict, smoked salmon platter with all the fixings, sourdough French toast as well as a seafood omelette and Grilled Salmon Burger with Romesco Sauce.

The DC location was nominated for “New Restaurant of the Year,” RAMW 2006 and “Best Neighborhood Gathering Place,” RAMW 2007. The Alexandria location opened in the fall of 2007.
