I read your entry about Springfield Mall in Virginia. I wanted to let you know that the mall has gone downhill radically. Most of the stores have closed; it's actually scary walking down the corridors there. Very deserted. And there's been a lot of crime, including fatalities. A number of years ago the mall was bought by Vornado. Since then, Vornado has defaulted on its loan. The unofficial word is that Vornado is letting the mall get run-down because if the valuation drops, they can renegotiate more favorable terms. It's very discouraging. When Vornado bought the property, there were plans to turn it into a town center. Quite honestly, I don't see that happening in the next decade. I live 5 minutes from this mall, but when I need to shop, I drive 20 miles to Fair Oaks mall.
