George Washington Birthday
February 16-18, 2013. Old Town, Alexandria, VA. A weekend celebration includes the country's largest parade celebrating George Washington, a 10k race, the Birthnight Banquet and Ball, and more.

St. Patrick's Day Celebration & Parade
March 2, 2013. Old Town, Alexandria, VA. Old Town is Irish for a day with the Fun Dog Show, classic car competition and the St. Patricks Day Parade.

Historic Garden Tour of Alexandria
April 20, 2013. Old Town, Alexandria, VA. This Alexandria tradition offers the unique opportunity to be invited into some of Old Town's finest private homes and gardens. Many of the area's historic sites offer special activities, including Carlyle House, which hosts its Herb Sale, with historical plants and crafts.

Mount Vernon's Spring Wine Festival & Sunset Tour

July 4, 2013. George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens, 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon, VA. An 18th-century style celebration with daytime fireworks, a moving Naturalization Ceremony, and patriotic music.

USA & Alexandria Birthday Celebration
July 13, 2013. Oronoco Bay Park, Pendleton and N. Union streets, Alexandria, VA. The Saturday after Independence Day, Alexandria celebrates its own birthday with a concert by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, birthday cake, food and fireworks. Evening culminates in Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture."

Alexandria Festival of the Arts
Sept. 7-8, 2013. Old Town, Alexandria, VA. King Street between Washington and Union streets becomes an open-air art gallery with more than 200 juried artists who display and sell fine art ranging from paintings, sculpture, prints and photography to pottery, glass, jewelry and ceramics. For families, historic Christ Church hosts a respite area while the Torpedo Factory Art Center has interactive activities highlighting its artists.

Mount Vernon's Fall Wine Festival & Sunset Tour

Art on the Avenue

Mount Vernon by Candlelight
2012 Dates to Be Announced. George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens, 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon, VA. During this holiday program, visitors learn about the Washingtons' Christmas traditions as they tour the first two floors of the candlelit Mansion, and meet historical characters including Martha Washington with fireside caroling and cider and cookies.

Christmas at Mount Vernon
November 21 - January 6, 2014. George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens, 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon, VA This special daytime program includes a dozen themed Christmas trees, historical chocolate-making demonstrations and 18th-century dancing. The popular tradition continues of opening the rarely seen third floor of the Mansion and inviting visitors to meet the charming "Mrs. Washington."

Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend
December 6-7, 2013. Old Town, Alexandria, VA. An entire weekend welcoming the holiday season and celebrating Alexandria's Scottish heritage.

Holiday Boat Parade of Lights
December 7, 2013. Alexandria Marina, Cameron Street, Alexandria, VA Alexandria's harbor lights up when more than 50 illuminated boats cruise the Potomac River at the historic waterfront.

Royal St., Alexandria VA Take a break from the fast pace of the season and experience the charm and history of Old Town Alexandria's popular holiday tour of historic sites, including Gadsby's Tavern Museum, Carlyle House and more. Tours by candlelight with seasonal decorations, entertainment and light refreshments.

Christmas in Camp Open House
December 14, 2013. Fort Ward Museum, 4301 W. Braddock Rd., Alexandria, VA. Learn how the holiday was observed during the Civil War with living history interpreters, period music and light refreshments. Guided fort tours, weather permitting.

First Night Alexandria
