The National Capital Barbecue Battle is an annual competition between top BBQ restaurants from the Washington, DC area and around the country. If you love barbecue you’ll love the food samples, cooking demonstrations, interactive displays and children’s activities at this sizzling summer festival. The nation’s best barbecue teams cook-off for over $40,000 in cash and prizes in two major contests.

The Barbecue Battle features live entertainment including 30 rock, R&B, jazz, and blues bands performing on three state-of-the-art stages. Patrons will also enjoy the interactive exhibits like the NBA Nation Basketball Tour and children's activities including magicians, games and surprises.

BBQ Contests

  • On Saturday, June 27, top BBQ teams will “compete in the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) Barbecue Challenge Contest with beef brisket, chicken, and pork categories. A special prize will be awarded for the “Rancher’s Reserve Beef BBQ Champion”. The KCBS contest winner will receive guaranteed entry into the American Royal BBQ Contest in Kansas City, Missouri.

  • On Sunday, June 28, the pork-focused Memphis in May (MIM) style contest will determine the “National Pork Champion” and feature pork shoulder, rib and whole hog categories. The winner will be guaranteed entry to the 2010 Memphis in May World Barbecue Championship. All contestants have a chance to win the “Nation's Best Sauce” contest. Teams from 29 states have competed in past years.
The National Capital Barbecue Battle has been voted a “Top 10 BBQ Event” by The Travel Channel and Discovery.com and has been featured on broadcasts all over the world. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs in Washington.
