Washington, DC’s Freedom Walk

Remembering September 11

The America Supports You FREEDOM WALK is an event held in Washington, DC as an expression of support for the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the Pentagon, Twin Towers, and Flight 93 over Pennsylvania, and support of the many American men and women in uniform, past and present, who protect our freedom. The public is invited to participate. A concert will follow the walk at the Pentagon South Parking Lot.

Washington, DC held its first Freedom Walk on September 10, 2005 and has encouraged other cities to honor the victims of the 9-11 terrorist attacks with their own walks this year. Cities that hold Freedom Walks include: Peoria, AZ, Yuma, AZ, Travis AFB, CA, Aurora, CO, Belleview, FL, Deltona, FL, Ocala, FL, Crawfordsville, IN, Dearborn, MI, Bellevue, NE, Grand Forks, ND, Oklahoma City, OK., Plano, TX, Salt Lake City, UT, Chesapeake, VA, Poquoson, VA, Hampton, VA, Norfolk, VA and Portsmouth, VA.

Date and Time

Sunday, September 7, 2008, beginning at 9 a.m.
Walkers must arrive by 8:45 a.m.

Washington, DC's Freedom Walk Location

The Walk begins at the Women in Military Service for America Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery and proceeds to the Pentagon. The closest Metro is the Arlington Cemetery stop.

The Freedom Walk is sponsored by America Supports You, a nationwide program of the Department of Defense that helps demonstrate Americans’ support for the men and women of the Armed Forces and their families.
