Stars & Stripes & Spokes 2011 in Washington DC

Stars & Stripes & Spokes, a four-day festival on Memorial Day weekend in Washington DC, will honor America’s Armed Forces and bring together thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts with live music, military vehicle and equipment displays, food and more. Admission is free. A portion of the event proceeds will be donated to the Walter Reed Society Warrior/Family Support Fund to assist service members and/or their families during the patient’s treatment at the hospital. The event is new this year and will take place the same weekend as Rolling Thunder, the annual motorcycle rally that is a call for the government's recognition and protection of Prisoners of War (POWs) and those Missing in Action (MIAs). The evebnt will be held rain or shine.

Parking and Transportation
Motorcycle parking is free on-site. Car parking is available in parking lots 5 and 8 for $10. Unfortunately the Stadium-Armory Metro Station will be closed for maintenance over the Memorial Day weekend. Metro will operate shuttle buses to the stadium. Getting around the area may be a challenge.

Stars & Stripes & Spokes Highlights

• More than 50 VIPs (including WRC-TV’s Jim Vance, The Edge 105.9’s Mike O’Meara, military members and representatives from Congress) are scheduled to jump on their bikes for a Kick Off Ride starting from Safeway’s parking lot (1100 4th St, SW) where they travel via police escort through the District and over to the stadium grounds.
  
  
• Live music will range from classic, southern and alternative rock to R&B, blues, soul and country performed by bands such as the Nighthawks, Jasmine Cain, SnakeBite, Kirk McEwen Band and John Luskey
  
  
• Special events will include military equipment displays, bikini contests, a bike stunt show, police rodeo, Tour of the Town Run and more.
