Official Inaugural BallsDue to the current economic conditions of the country, President Barack Obama has announced that he is cutting back on the number of inaugural balls. There will be just two official parties plus a concert honoring military families. The cutback on festivities is meant to reduce government spending and the amount of security and law-enforcement personnel needed. This will be the lowest number of balls in the past 60 years. Here are the details on the official events:
- Children’s Concert - Saturday, January 19, 2013. Washington Convention Center. Hosted by Michelle Obama and Jill Biden to honor children and spouses of those serving in the Armed Forces. The concert will feature performances by Black Violin, Far East Movement, Glee! cast members Amber Riley, Darren Criss and Naya Rivera, iLuminate, Katy Perry, Mindless Behavior, The Soul Children of Chicago and Usher. Nick Cannon will host the event, with D-Nice as DJ and Rocsi Diaz and J.R. Martinez as presenters. This event is by invitation only.
- Commander In Chief’s Ball – Monday, January 21, 2013. Washington Convention Center. For members of the Armed Forces. Tickets will be free for invited guests, including active duty and reserve service members, Medal of Honor recipients and wounded warriors, among others, with troops overseas participating via video. Performers will include Alicia Keys, Brad Paisley, Chris Cornell, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson and Marc Anthony. A live stream of the event will be available online at www.pentagonchannel.mil.
- The Inaugural Ball - Monday, January 21, 2013. Washington Convention Center. Limited tickets were distributed to the public. The ticketing process is now closed. Performers will include Alicia Keys, Black Violin, Brad Paisley, Far East Movement, FUN., members of the Glee cast, John Legend, Katy Perry, Maná, Smokey Robinson, Soundgarden, Stevie Wonder and Usher.

Hope for St Jude Inaugural Cocktail Reception

Join Roland and Jacquie Martin as they kick-off Inauguration Weekend with a benefit cocktail reception for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The event boasts a live band and a host of celebrity friends as well as a silent auction featuring a Washington Redskins football signed by its quarterback Robert Griffin, III. BWUFA Youth Presidential Inaugural Ball
January 19, 2013. Crystal City Gateway Marriott Hotel, Arlington, Virginia. Black Women United for Action is hosting its second inaugural ball for ages 7-18. The idea for the event came from an 11 year old California student, Thandie James, who in 2008 questioned why no Inaugural Balls were held for youth who wished to participate of the celebration of Presidential Inauguration festivities. Tickets are $50 Students; $50 Adults.
Black Tie & Boots Inaugural Ball
January 19, 2013. Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. 201 Waterfront Street National Harbor, MD. The Texas State Society celebrates the inauguration with the biggest names in Texas entertainment, food and drinks, a Texas Fair, and more.
January 19, 2013. Art and Soul, Liaison Capitol Hill, 415 New Jersey Ave. NW Washington, DC. Celebrity Chef Art Smith and Executive Chef Wes Morton will co-chair the Chefs Ball, and five additional DC celebrity chefs will prepare late night bites for the event, with proceeds benefiting their charities of choice. The celebration will highlight the sights, sounds, and foods of Illinois with multiple open bars, heavy hors d’oeuvres and buffet stations, continuous live music and dancing. A portion of the money raised from the Gala provides scholarships to students from Illinois who intern in the Congressional offices of the Illinois Delegation. Tickets: $250.
Inaugural Fitness Ball
