Gettsyburg, Pennsylvania, the site of the American Civil War's most famous battle, kicked off its five-year commemoration on April 29, 2011. Through 2015, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania - the scene of more than 50,000 casualties in just three days in 1863 - will remember this important period in history with re-enactments, living history, solemn remembrances and the opening of a new museum housed in one of the most historic buildings in America. Following is a list of Gettysburg events honoring the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War.

Note that some of the biggest events will take place in 2013 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. The historic town will observe this important anniversary through 10 continuous days of ceremonies, programs, re-enactments and the opening of the Seminary Ridge Museum, from June 28 through July 7, 2013. See a guide to attending the Civil War Reenactments.

Gettysburg is located about an hour and a half northwest of Washington DC. For general visiting information, see a Visitors Guide to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
