By Rachel Cooper, About.com

The Shakespeare Theatre Company’s innovative approach to Shakespeare and other classic playwrights has earned it the reputation as the nation’s premier classical theatre company. The Shakespeare Theatre Company produces eight mainstage plays annually in its two downtown theatres and one free play during the summer in Rock Creek Park’s Carter Barron Amphitheatre.

With the recent addition of the Harman Center for the Arts, the Shakespeare Theatre Company has expanded its season adding performances in repertory, new family and lunch-time programming and even creating a mini-Christopher Marlowe festival.
