Guide Review - Bohemian Caverns Review - Washington, DC Jazz Club
The Caverns is a legendary jazz club where many great artists have performed including Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Billy Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, and even Bill Cosby. The club was restored a few years ago with the revival of the U Street District and today hosts many great national and local talents.
Bohemian Caverns is a below ground nightclub that truly feels like you are in cavern. The setting is dark with more lighting in the back near the bar and in the first two rows facing the front of the stage. Seating is first-come first-served so it is recommended that you arrive early to find a good seat. There are usually two seatings for weekend shows.
A full menu is available with a nice selection of American cuisine with cajun influences. Appetizers include items such as lobster bisque, spinach salad, bourbon chicken wings and catfish fingers. Main dishes include chicken and shrimp jambalaya, salmon steak, grilled ribeye and grilled talapia. I thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp and grits. The shrimp were plump and juicy and the seasoning was mild but tasty.
