Asian Elephants - Photos of the Elephant Trail at the National Zoo

Shanti, a female Asian elephant, was born about 1975. She came from Sri Lanka and weighs about 9,000 pounds. She is the National Zoo's largest Asian elephant. The opening of the Elephant Community Center marks the completion of Elephant Trails, which was a seven-year, $56 million project, and include the community center, the Elephant Barn, the Elephant Outpost, an Elephant Trek and four outdoor exhibit yards.
