- I love the Jersey Shore, especially Avalon/Stone Harbor and other points south of Atlantic City. The beaches are wide and relatively uncrowded, compared to MD or DE. The dunes aren't overbuilt with hotels. The lifeguards are really professional, so you feel safer with little kids in the water. And if you want a little action, places with busier boardwalks, like Wildwood and Ocean City, NJ, aren't far away. And Cape May makes a great day trip too. The one problem is house rentals are pricey (and hotel rooms in short supply) but you can still find some deals.

- We love the Shenandoah Valley, and Staunton is the perfect home base! History buffs will love the kid-friendly Frontier Culture Museum - look for the cats! - and the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Museum and Library. Kids enjoy riding the Gypsy Express (mini-train) and feeding the ducks at Gypsy Hill Park. There are some great restaurants and funky shops in the Red Brick district downtown. Take in a play - presented in authentically Shakespearean fashion - at Blackfriars Theater, also downtown. You're less than an hour's drive from Monticello, Charlottesville, and some of the Shenandoah's Civil War sites, too!

- We love Sea Colony at Bethany Beach - it's right by the beach so you can easily run back for naptime. There's also a pool in between every building if your kids aren't great ocean swimmers. And the whole area is so kid friendly - make sure to go to Rehobeth boardwalk at least once for the little playground.
